Frostfang with her walrus toy!
• My introduction: My name is Frostfang, and I am a female American mink from domesticated (fur farm) lines
• My nickname is: Frosty
• My color is: My coat color is called "blue cross". I am a silvery color with ruby red eyes!
• My age is: I lost track! The hooman says I'm "elderly"... I have some arthritis & an astigmatism in my eyes. But I am still full of energy!!
• My best friend: Paul the Walrus!! They are my best friends in the whole wide world +all four of them!)!! I take them swimming and bring them with me everywhere.
• My biggest fear: Losing Paul or someone taking Paul away!
• Favorite thing to do: SWIM... I am an expert level swimmer! Paul goes swimming with me a lot. I can do a flippy back float & I can also swim SUPER FAST!

• My job: I am the assistant Boss-In-Charge for Mustelid Madness Rescue! I help Nico with his bossin' duties, and give him advice on matters of Mustelid Importance.
Frostfang is a tiny mink with a huge personality! She loves to swim, and her favorite thing in the world is her vintage TY beanie baby, Paul the Walrus (she has four of them!). Frosty came to use with NO teeth!! We will probably never know the full story of why she has no teeth.
Unfortunately, Frosty was recently diagnosed with arthritis and an ACL tear. She is on a medication called Adequan, and her exercise is being restricted to help her heal. She gets an injection of Adequan once a week, and it will help improve the function of her joints. This treatment is based on the recommendation of our exotic vet as the standard course of treatment for small mammals (Frosty is not a candidate for surgery).
These osteo issues, as well as Frosty's dental issues, are likely genetic due to the terrible genetics in mink from fur farm lines. They are not bred for health or longevity.
Frosty was sold to a young lady in Arkansas as a "ferret". Upon realizing that Frosty was in fact a mink, this kind young lady reached out to MMR and worked with us to transfer this lovely little mink into our care! A local AR wildlife rehabilitator referred us to a great vet in the area, who was able to examine Frosty and her "sister" River, microchip them, and get them ready for travel. An amazing Billings MT rescue, Humane Animal Controls, drove the mink all the way from Arkansas to WY.
We don't believe Frostfang was ever an "escaped" fur farm mink, even though all domestic mink come from fur farm lines. Rather, we believe that Frostfang and River were sold into the exotic pet industry as kits and perhaps bounced through several homes. We will never know for certain.
